Apple AR glasses: is it the end of the smartphone era?

03 March 2020

The aim of the Californian company would be to place on the market the reality headset within 2022, while the AR glasses are likely to be released in 2023.

Apple Vice President Mike Rockwell has discussed with the development team the numerous details concerning the captivating project- including the release date- during a staff meeting held in October 2019 in the Steve Jobs Theatre, California. More than 1000 employees joined the session: this aspect clearly unveils how hard the company is working to develop such state-of-the art technology.

It has been said that the development of the AR glass is going to usurp the widely known iPhones within 10 years, or even more. The company- according to what is leaked- is also developing sophisticated features such as transition lenses: they get dark when someone is visualising AR features, so that people known when someone is temporary detached from reality, as their lenses get darker.

But, what about the perks of AR?

AR turns out to be quite handy for despatching daily activities: one can use AR in order to orient in a place without recurring to a map, to measure object without a scale and to evaluate how furniture would fit in a place.

Many prestigious companies have recurred to such groundbreaking technology: thanks to the IKEA Place App, one can display its furniture without leaving home. General Electrics meets its employee's needs: in fact, they can take advantages of a breakthrough system that point out to them faulty industrial equipments. American Airlines developed a software for terminal: thanks to the AR technology, customers can frame with the camera what surround them in order to discover the closest bar or restroom near their departure gate.

We just have to wait until the Apple AR glass will be realised worldwide.
